Little Giant 9300 New Design with Digital Controls

Yes, the fan is installed over the heating element. I thought it was missing an element till I plugged it in and saw it heating. It really is different than previous models.

I got the 9300 without the fan because the fan wasn't available according to Miller. I modified mine by purchasing a 60mm computer fan (and a guard for the top of it). I just mounted it on top of the thermal unit. Inside the thermal unit would be better but I didn't want to mess with it again. I had taken it apart once and the mounts are in three pieces and so it was difficult to get it lined up again. Seems to maintain the temperature well.

Has anyone had any updates from their experiences with this model? I bought it and had some issues with the fan, but will blame that on the seller. I have since bought a controlled DC transformer to control of the new 60mm fan (computer) so I can adjust the voltage going to it. That seemed to work, I also had a heck of a time with that plastic crap around the thermostat. Will be removing that after this round hatches. The thermostat on mine was dead on with the spotcheck thermometer though so I got lucky. After moving the thermostat around I found that if I place it about 4 inches in from the controllers bottom left side it can hold a pretty even temp throughout the entire incubator. I think I will be replacing the humidity gauge with one from "Mouser" though. Can buy about a 100 of them and one is bound to be correct for $20.

Far as the water channels are concerned I didn't use them because I built my own Humidity Controller with This (from amazon) and it was off by 5% (from factory) but it can be calibrated. Do not buy this is you are unsure about electricity. 120V is used and it will wake you up if you don't know what you are doing. But as stated above I am not trusting that Humidity gauge that it came with. Anyways thought I would add to this thread.

Think tonight I will turn the fan off and let it be still air for hatch day. Think that might be worth a shot, Didn't have high hopes for this hatch just because of the 3 days of hell I had to go through with the people I bought this from. but I water tested 4 and they were all wiggling.

That sounds like where I got the most accurate temperature too, until I added a turner then it moved all over. I've had horrible experiences with this incubator. There is another thread open about this, you can search or look at my profile for a link to it. Good luck, if you can find a good solution for anchoring that probe please share!

Well I ralmost about to rig my own fan system and stay away from that one. I'm going to try ducks in it Sunday and see how it manages without the plastic sheet, I took it off about 2 hours ago from my quail and it seemed to help a little.

another thing I am going to look at is moving the heater/fan to the center. Why LG/Miller didn't not place that in the middle is beyond me because if you have it located on one end or the other it's going to be hotter on whatever wall it's closest too... Thermal dynamics 101... Think they teach that in 3 or 4th grade. heater closer to the wall = fire... don't place any object in front of your space heaters... enough ranting, so I think after this hatch I will attempt to move the heater/fan to the center. I think I have room to do so. I'll then plug the holes where the old one was. But don't get me wrong for how much this is worth, it's well worth the cost.

You are right about it not being in the center, I have wondered this too and I've measured four degree differences across the incubator, I'm sure from this! Your right about the plastic I finally took mine off this last hatch and it did seem to help it stay at a stable temperature. I thought about blowing an egg out filling it full of silicone and putting the probe through it.

Well after what I thought was going to be a nasty hatch rate, the little buggers surprised me this morning... at 6am 10 were hatched, by 12pm 15 (25 total) more hatched, only got 8 eggs left to hatch and I'll have a 100% hatch rate... and all those have piped.

I guess it some how managed to do its thing. I still am going to make my adjustments for the ducks on Saturday but I'm completely shocked. they are a day early but you couldn't tell by looking at the healthy little suckers. Man they are loud though. almost forgot what they sound like it's been so long
