I wish i knew the right answers. My temp spiked to 105 today. Hope it wasnt there for long.

Yikes, I saw mine go to 104 on my secondary thermometer last night but it was because the chick had knocked the temp probe to the far end of the incubator away from the heating element. Might be something to consider come hatch time.

Yes that plastic with the probe gets in the way and chicks knock it around. I think when I clean out incubator I'm going to play around with its positioning. Culled two of the eggs they still had yoke so I'm guessing they quit around lockdown. 6 eggs left, I'm going to open a couple more this evening. The two chicks are good. Such a gamble with shipped eggs but I'm looking at ordering more. That spike is the pits Bama, I hope it wasn't there long. It's almost like the digital thermostat glitches at times.

My temp is spiking up and down alot. I believe the temp stayed steady when i had the bator all the way full

Yes,I agree, read somewhere about somebody putting rocks in to help keep the temperature regulated. I'm not sure about adding rocks because of the sanitary issue. Cleaned mine out this morning, the last six eggs were done. 3 appeared shrink wrapped, the other 3 had quite a bit of yoke left. My guess is those couple of days of humidity in the low 40% and the heat spikes. The chicks that did make it to hatch were quite large, I've read too high heat does this. Also that low heat is less dangerous than high. With the fan, I'm thinking I need to stay in the 99.5 range and humidity 50-55%. After incubator dries out I'm going to play around with probe placement. I'm also thinking I might pick up a bag of those clear glass drops from the craft store, they would fit in grooves under screen and would not affect the surface area and water. Trying to get local eggs now but not having much luck but the nice gal in Florida will send me more. Silkies are such a rarity in my area, we just were allowed city chicks a year ago and the farmers here do not mess around with these which I get if I had the space, I'd go for the big birds too! Hope everybody is having a good weekend and cooperative incubators! I'll update soon, keep me posted please!

I wanted to call the first one to hatch Independence, nickname Indy, little one is a runner, hatched flipping around crazy and hasn't really stopped.

Decided to order a turner and another batch of eggs. Thinking that opening incubator to turn eggs then watching humidity and temperature going up and down was too much grief and I like how it claims "to exercise the embryo", this is going to be an expensive back yard flock. Seeing a possible future of becoming the chicken lady. :D

Sounds to me like the extra eggs were acting as a heat sink, I second only1bgirl's suggestion about the rocks in the bottom. This might also be why my temp has fluctuated a lot at lower humidity levels, since I only have 10 eggs in there.

So cute!! I love the names. What was your final hatch rate?

I started out looking for a low-cost option to replenish my flock but I'm really wishing I had invested in a turner now, I'm glad I have less than a week of manual turning left. And yes, chickens are so addictive, welcome to the support group, haha.

I candled last night, Day 15. Out of the remaining 10 it looks like I have an early quitter with a much smaller embryo than the other 9 but I'm leaving it in just in case. Air cells look good, none of them look too small or too big to me, so I'm not going to try to mess with my humidity anymore. And now the long wait for Saturday!

Bgirl: im wondering if u will have enough clearance using the egg turner because u have the fan kit. The turner sits up pretty high in there
