Little Giant Hatch Along

Count me in, this is my first time ever hatching eggs!

I set 10 of my own duck eggs last Saturday. 5 are developing very nicely, the other 5 didn't show any development so I took them out today. I added 14 shipped White Rock eggs. Hoping for a good hatch!! My LG is a still air, I bought a fan kit though and am wondering if I can put the fan on while I'm incubating the eggs. Maybe I can lay a heating pad over top of the incubator for a few minutes to keep the eggs warm while we get the fan set up..??
My temps are fluctuating since we heat our house with wood and the temps are always changing. I'm looking at the thermometer constantly and it's driving me crazy!! Our house can get down to 50 at night and up to 80 during the day.

I'm also hand turning 5x a day because the duck eggs are too big for the auto turner.

Good luck to everyone! I haven't had any problem with the temp or humidity in my LG still air.......Today is day 7 for 1/2 of the bator - trying to figure out how to candle them without getting everyone cold. Any ideas? Do you take them all out and then close the lid? This is NOT for the faint of heart!!

I have not candled all of mine yet just one here and there. So I have no clue. I hope someone can answer this for you. I have been wondering about this to

wow. Is there any way you could check your humidity gage? That doesn't seen right.

Why do you need to get it over 60% for lockdown? 30-50% for days 1-18, 50-70% for lockdown. 60% is perfect. I would suggest just leaving it be. Once they start to pip, the humidity will spike anyway.

Thanks! I've heard 60%-80% so I figured 70% was a happy medium. I won't stress so much about getting it up there, then!

I didn't worry about the eggs temps dipping for a bit when they were getting candled. It takes a while for the internal temp of the egg to go down...plus hens get off the nest a couple times a day anyways.
