Little Giant incubator...hate it!

LG...I have three. The lesson I learned first...break it in first! Run it for at least an entire week, even two before you put eggs in it! I did not onmy first one, and ended up with dead eggs b/c with the room temp stable, having already gotten the temp adjusted to the right level, it started swingin wildly from 75 to 120 with ZERO adjustments!

There were no variables, the room did not change temp and noone touched the knob. After ten days ish this stopped and things were ok from then on. Not great...like with the hova bator folks talk about, but ok.

I am just biding my time till hubby buys the sportsman so I can fulfill my hatching dreams

LG - I may gut mine with pleasure - to build something else as a project. I dont trust it and have shed too many tears from the losses to the temp spikes and wonky issues...strictly for the stay at home/present at all times incubation folks, not for those who cannot attend the bator to protect the eggs. And I was only using it as a hatcher. I guess my environment isnt suited to the LG and I would need to place it in a better location (I have tried alot of places in my house, including the closet, bedroom, bathroom, dining room, etc) My Genesis is splendid.

Yup - I hate my LG too!

funny enough i use mine in my large laundry room. I find that the temp changes a lot and my washer and dryer actually help keep it stable when they are running. yes, it is very touchy and i most likely will gut it and make my own but right now i am happy with it.

And thats kinda the problem with it - too many variables. It works in the laundry room when you're doing laundry, but move it to the den or cut off the washer for a few days and "bloooey," - - you gotta re-establish it.

just hatched 9 out 12 mail order in a LG I am trying to decide if I will use it again I babysat this thing for 21 days and when the eggs hatched the temp. & humidity went through the roof. So if you make it till they hatch with out pulling your hair out hold on because it is not over till you take the chicks OUT! I have a turner and a fan in it.

Would love to but is filled to the brim with meaties I am trying to hatch. Depending on how it works out I may do as others mention and gut it to make my own. Since it was a gift from hubby ( and he NEVER buys gifts ) I am trying not to complain too much about it not being the same as my Hova. He was the one that kept saying "Where are we gonna put all these birds at?"

ya know, LG's make great hatchers if you wanna use your hova for incubations and turning..... kinda 2 stage it

Then again though, I mod'd my LG out so it performs like a hova so I love mine

I don't like them either. I have a Hovabator that works like a dream. A BYC'r sent me some eggs, many many more than she was supposed to so I had to run out and get 2 new LG's in a hurry.

I finally got one working perfectly. The second one though after 3 days of thinking I had it right, had a temp spike of 120 overnight and killed all 40 eggs that were in it.

Talk about wanting to scream!! I didn't want to take any chances with the other 35 eggs that I had so once the eggs that I had in my Hovabator hatched, I did a quick clean up of it and moved all my eggs from the other LG over to my Hovabator.

I won't use the two LG's again.
