Little giant incubator trouble

If you're using paper towels just take the plug out and use a straw to wet them through that hole. I line mine with paper towels laid flat just so I can adjust humidty that way, my towels are flat not bunched because I use a turner. So you can line the mesh with towels and keep humidity stable if your bator is set up in a temp and humidity controlled environment. Mine is always in the living room, so no spikes except when eggs hatch but that is going to happen.

Well currently it’s lockdown so I probably am not going to pull out the plug. I have just been quickly opening up the door and adding some water

I had lined my mesh with paper towel, it ended up wicking the water out of one of the wells and soaking the towels which increased the surface area of the water, and thus the humidity. I ended up going from 58% humidity to over 90% after the first few chicks hatched. Everything went perfectly until my hatching started... only 16 of 40 eggs hatched, only 13 survived past two days. It was heartbreaking opening eggs and seeing that 20 of them were full term and died from my mistake.

PLEASE if you’re going to use a liner during the hatch, use something non-absorbent!!!

Hey guys what humidity is too low? It keeps going between 45-70 at different times and I’m trying to make it stay at 65%. At what humidity level would it be too dry? I’m super worried

Try adding the water slowly down a straw through the vent hole into the wad of towel or water well, rather than taking the lid off... as @Chickassan suggests. Go slowly... every time you take the lid off the humidity and temperature will vary as the warm moist air escapes. You want it to stay stable.
