little giant incubator

I did NOT like mine one bit and after using it many times and never getting a very good hatch, I drop kicked it into the trash can and got my first hovabator 1590. I still have that incubator and 3 genesis 1588s which I've been very happy with.

I using my LG again, I havent had a chance to use my hovabators at all...just had them 2wks...so maybe the next hatch. But I get some awesome hatches with my LG...once I figured it out...and yes its touchy...

19Dawn...so you have an LG but never used it? if so the knob is very touchy...a slight move can make it spike...email me tomm...if you have questions...I can send you how I do mine....took alot to learn it (lg) but I did...

No problems here with the LG works just as good as the Genesis and other Hova Bators-I have one of each and none is better than the other for great hatches since I get 100% to hatch frequently.
What I found with the LG is they are not kid friendly..my son spilled some water on the top and it cooked the solid state heating unit-I mean it has the warning don't let it get wet but

accidents happen and with the wafer thermostat it's not going to cook if it gets wet so just something to think about
I wouldn't mind buying another if I needed one but honestly they are all too small

I never knew about calibrating the hygrometer - maybe that's my problem

I have a brinsea octogon 20 w/auto turn, and just got a king suro 20 that's all decked out

(have my first batch of eggs in there currently, so we'll see) I have had great results with the brinsea, but lately my hatch rates have been down. I've been getting frustrated, and am afraid to try more hatching eggs because it is becoming expensive to only have 1 or 2 chicks hatch out. I am going to do the salt thing - VERY glad I read through this thread!!

Sorry I was honestly not trying to highjack!!

Ive only hatched with an LG...but I just now got as of 2wks ago, Hovabators...not gonna fire them up until after Im back from vacation if I want to continue to hatch...but right now as of today, Im in lockdown with my LG, so far so good...had movement in all my eggs in there.

Yes, I didnt know about my hygrometer and calibrating either, and I had one that was off by 8% and the other by 15%!!! which means I was really off big time. Nobody ever talks about calibrating...so that is one of the first things I mention when people talk about first time incubating.

Cheryl...I got mine at Radio shack, they have computer fans there...when you walk in you might only see the expense one's...17.88...keep looking I found mine for 7.88 and installed it myself...

If you have an LG, like I do, I used the smallest hole ontop of my bator to run the fan cord through....

and it has a blue light so it not only works but looks PRETTY...

Regarding the calibration, wouldn't the existing humidity of the room have an influence on your final result? For instance, the room I am calibrating in was at 78% when I started this calibration method a little while ago, therefore the air inside my ziploc bag is at 78% to start with. I would think that my results would be a good deal different from someone in a climate where the existing humidity is only, say, 35%? Does anyone remember from chemistry 101 how this actually works (I forgot)?

That is the same thing I have. I noticed both of the red air vents on top were in? I thought one was supposed to be removed?
