I was wondering if it is ok to show a 17 month old a baby chick. What would she do with them?????????

Viewing should be fine. I'd be leery of allowing a small child to handle a chick for fear it might get squeezed too hard.
Closely supervised petting would be OK with a thorough hand washing to follow. Have fun!

I was that age when I held my first chick. I have an old photo of it, but I do remember it. In the photo it looks like I'm squeezing the squat out of the chick, but I remember I was trying hard not to let it fall out of my hands. (Yes, I really do have memories that far back. Now, memory of what I did just two minutes ago, not so much....)

Have you ever seen a small child hold a cterpillar or ladybug? At least with our littles, when they are tiny, they are MUCH more careful. They seem to know it's delicate, and don't actually close their fists around it... My 18 month old little guy likes to "hug" the kitten (mainly cause the cat wants nothing to do with him) The kitten is very patient with him and will often times
"hug" him right back. By the time we get our chicks in March, he'll be almost 2...so I'm confident with proper supervision, the chicks will be his best friends....
