Little Lambs Eat Ivy ...

We had the vet come out and look them over since they came from such appalling conditions. They all got a worming injection to start them out good on our pasture. She told me to watch the stools because of the grass and the stress of moving can make the susectible to cocci. So like everything else we have ourr eyes on them. They are getting a bit more friendly but still very skittish. They know what the food bucket means and will follow us like we are the Pied Piper. lol

Funny, feed anything and it gets friendly really fast. People, too.

The ram lamb will let us touch him and rub his face. The other 2 won't have any of it. The follow the food but don't let you get too close.

my niece had a lamb for the county fair this year. It took 6 weeks for sure for her lamb to get friendly. But even after she became more of a pet, she'll still spook easily.
Anyhow, yesterday was the auction and my niece lucked out because the people who bought it are putting it out to pasture. But it was a eye opener for her because she saw all the other kids crying because their "pets" were off to the slaughter house.
Gotta say, one of our friends had a pen of meat birds. Three birds weighing in at 24 lbs and he got $90/ pound. I told my daughter "your taking meat birds tothe fair"!!

It sure was. I gotta say , we have a great buyers group at our little county fair. The kids do really well on their animals. It has been pretty typical for the rabbits and meat birds to go sky high. Honestly I think some of the men egg each other on and think it's really funny to buy a pen of bunnies or chickens. Sometimes they'll donate their purchase to someone else just to be funny. For instance one year a lady bought the pen of fryers and donated one fryer to each of 3 different local fire dept.'s We all still talk about it.
