Today my 7 week old roo made his first big boy step into the flock. He gets to be out with the girls all day in the run. He is speedy and I have provided excaped and hide spots and so far he had done a wonderful job of not making himself a target for our 7 teenage pullets. But today as I sat and watched he made his first move toward true integration, he walked up to where the lowest ranking girl was napping and plunk down next to her. She, a tad miffed pecked him on the head, he pecked her back, she stood up and raised her hackles, he did the same and after a chest bumping contest he won the right to nap in the shade next to her. That is until Big Bertha, the buff oprington plucked down next to him. I quess she must have giving him the old stink eye, because he reached over and gave her a peck on the head, lol she stood up and raised her hackles and poor little roo let out a scream and high tailed it back to safer shade lol.
