Today my 7 week old roo made his first big boy step into the flock. He gets to be out with the girls all day in the run. He is speedy and I have provided excaped and hide spots and so far he had done a wonderful job of not making himself a target for our 7 teenage pullets. But today as I sat and watched he made his first move toward true integration, he walked up to where the lowest ranking girl was napping and plunk down next to her. She, a tad miffed pecked him on the head, he pecked her back, she stood up and raised her hackles, he did the same and after a chest bumping contest he won the right to nap in the shade next to her. That is until Big Bertha, the buff oprington plucked down next to him. I quess she must have giving him the old stink eye, because he reached over and gave her a peck on the head, lol she stood up and raised her hackles and poor little roo let out a scream and high tailed it back to safer shade lol.

Little roosters can be so funny!

This is the first rooster I have owned, and I have never laughed at chickens so much in my life. I can all day sitting in the run, it's better then a sitcom.

My rooster, Big Moe, had quite a time trying to establish himself in the flock when I got him. He still hasn't won over Jenny, one of my Silver-Laced Wyandottes.
Rooster behavior is very comical to watch, especially when they show a hen food, a good nesting spot or do the courtship dance. Big Moe tries to show the girls nesting spots in the garage and while doing so, calls out a loud, low-pitched croon.

I used to keep my youngsters in the "chick pen" until they were big enough to introduce to the flock and whenever I had a broody I'd put her and the chicks in there as well. I had a group including a little roo in there once with the hens and chicks. I can't remember how old he was, I think around 8-10 weeks. I fed the broody and her chicks and the youngsters, separately, and little rooster saw the hen was distracted, so he took his chance. Would you believe he tried to mate with her? She was only 4 times bigger than him!

But, heck it was funny sight, this little cowboy hanging on to the back of her neck, like a pro, and bouncing up and down on her back very enthusiastically, cheeping his head off all the way. Lucky for him the hen was too shocked to respond. I was surprised she didn't send him flying.

Sumi, thank you for the great belly laugh! Now my DH knows for sure I have gone around the bend. Lol, I just hope my little guy doesn't try anything so bold! I would fear for his very life. I'm not even sure he can jump high enough to get on Big Burtha's back. But my poor little Betsy, the barred rock he seems to have taken a shine to, might be in for a real shock! Lol

Oh this thread made me chuckle! Reminds me of when my BO Roo "Henry" attempted to mount a 10lb cornish rock x and instead he got bucked off and the other meatie gave him a peck to the leg. He was so excited he mounted the snow shovel

Lol you guys are killing me! Thank you all! I love a great story and a good laugh

This is awesome! At least I'm not the only one with hillarious randy roosters! My silkie is constantly chasing my Cornishx girls, the RIR girls and my Light Brahmas. Funniest thing ever: Big fat Brahma Mama hauling tail feathers across the yard making THE most Gawd awful racket and little randy roo with his streamers waving and fluff practically flattened making retarded chicken gimme some noise!

wish I got that on video. Thanks to my randy roo my 8 year old no longer buys the "oh he's just chicken stacking" excuse any more so I explained to her, that he was just wanting to fertilize the eggs so Drumstick could hatch them. He was about 8 weeks old when he turned into Horny Henry. I guess he just likes his hens extra fat,as Drumstick is a tub! He won't go after any other pullet in the run just Drumstick.
