Hey all, one of my Rhode Island Reds has been showing some signs of illness. For about a week now every time I let the chickens out in the morning she is the very last one out and she comes out about a minute later as she is still in the roost and hasn't gotten off yet. She always is spitting out saliva. When she comes out she takes a drink of water and then acts normal for the rest of the day. However, today she didn't quite go back to normal. When I let the chickens out, she didn't come out and was sitting in the roost spitting out saliva/bile. I took her off the roost and made her go outside. Her comb started turning somewhat purplish on the blade and white at the points (not all of them). She is acting very lethargic and she ate very little. She is 3 years old and is living with 10 other chickens. Any opinion would be appreciated! Thanks!

ETA: Her poop is green, It's

out today.

She started acting a little better earlier today. 15 minutes ago she started flopping on the ground and frothing saliva.

I'm sorry for your loss. How did her crop feel the last couple of days while she was acting off? You could do a necropsy on her to look inside her crop, gizzard, and check the abdominal organs for internal laying or egg yolk peritonitis. Or if you refrigerate her body, you could have the state vet do a necropsy. Here is some information on necropsies:

Thank You. Probably not going to do a necropsy but its a thought. Thanks for the links.

You're welcome. It really helps to learn more about what can go wrong, but it is not easy to do on pets.
