Live Cam for Coop?

I want a webcam in my new coop... but my hubby already thinks I'm insane. He just doesn't get it. His idea of, and my idea of, "Chick TV" is very different!

Maybe Santa will bring me one...

Hubby put up a web cam that you can watch on ustream. It views our run and the girls antics. Not sure the brand he got but is color during the day and has night vision. We actually saw a rat running around in the run after the girls were locked in the coop for the night. Maybe might add one in the coop so we can watch when that first egg is laid. Hopefully soon...3 gals are 21 weeks old.

For Christmas, I received a Foscam color IP camera from my sons. It is a wireless IP camera with IR for night time viewing. I can remotely pan and tilt the camera and more importantly, can view my girls on my iPhone from anywhere in the world. It is a great addition to the coop and with a remote thermometer and hygrometer, we know exactly what's going on in the coop at all times.

Here is a pic from the camera using IR. Enjoy...

Jx2inNC, I think that one has been replaced by the model I have. Please see this web site:

... and this is less expensive...

Model: FI8918W

Awesome! Thank you very much!
Is it pretty simple to set up and get your computer/phone to connect to?
Any dislikes about it or suggestions in using it that you've found work better or worse?

To be honest, my very computer literate son configured the camera to work with my home wireless network and also created a special web site so that I can access the camera when I am not home (your LAN might not require this, my home LAN generates a dynamic IP address).

The iPhone app is called Foscam Surveillance Pro. It works almost as well as the laptop app that comes with the camera (although I am finding new features on the iPhone app every day).

My only concern is that the camera is an indoor camera rated down to 17F. Don't know what happens when the temps go below the spec and we pan the camera. I haven't had the camera long enough to see how well it stands up over time. I have mounted the camera upside down and mounted near the ceiling of the coop. The range of the camera works better for me when upside down.

So far, so good. I'll post any new updates when they pop up...

So these cameras from HF...

Do you plug them into a VCR recorder (I think we have a few of those oldies hanging around) or do you plug them into a tv? Is it digital or analog signal? Could you get it to play on the computer? I'm not very tech savvy but hubby is a shop teacher so I'm sure we could figure this out...he spends A LOT of time at Harbor Freight!

I cannot wait to get a camera going. I live out in the country and hate to bother a friend to check on my chickens when I am away for an evening or two (what if the automatic door quits working?). With this, I could check on my iPhone and have someone go out when I see an issue. Thanks to everyone who has supplied links to companies and to personal photos and videos.
