Live chick in trouble - graphic pics - help!

If too much yolk is there it will likely rupture and the chick will die. If it's only a tiny bit, it can sometimes still absorb it.

Ok, thanks for the info. Is it possible to separate the chick from the yolk? I am assuming no. Chick has been in the bator untouched for several hours now. Still seems as though he is doing fine - lots of squirming around and chirping - but the yolk looks unchanged.

What day are you on? what day did the chick pip? chick's can take all day to hatch maybe even 2 if not completely ready. Im just wondering why did you remove the whole entire shell?

Do not remove that yolk!! If you do the chick will die. I say crank the humidity up and hope for the best. The more you open that bator the quicker that membrane is going to dry out. IF, and this is a BIG IF , there is no blood in the vein's near the chicks head then you can start to remove the membrane there. The second you see any blood at all, rewrap that chick and leave him. It is clear that he was not ready to hatch.

ETA: after going back and looking at the picture again, he has a way to breath, I would just leave him and see what happens. It is going to take "many" hours for that yolk to absorb, if it does.

It is clear now... but it was not earlier, when he was silent and unmoving for hours.

The yolk is still there - I am not touching it. There is a bit of a hole in the membrane up near his head. The incubator stays closed except for when I lift it about 1 inch to mist him.

Thanks,

The chick pipped a bit less than 24 hours ago. We are on the end of day 22. Removing the entire shell was a mistake - since I believed he was ready to come out (no blood while outer membrane was removed), I removed everything to make it as easy as possible for him. Again, a mistake.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh. I was in a hurry to type. I think you are doing all you can for now. Make sure you are misting with warm water, and keep him, wrapped

I hope the little guy makes it.

As you said before, this is your first time. Everybody makes mistakes!! In the future, If you have to help, don't remove all of the shell. Remember sometimes it takes longer than the 21 day's for a chick to hatch. It can take up to 24 day;s.

I thought for a long time that that might be the case, but then the other chick stomped around the incubator, making all sorts of a ruckus, and this chick did not make a peep or a move.

I feel horrible... I am just waiting and seeing, but how long do I wait? I mean, what if he gets through the night, but with no yolk absorption? Just... keep waiting?
