Live chick in trouble - graphic pics - help!

I have been lurking for awhile- a few months this time and a few months a year or so back, and I have to say this thread was all I needed to register and post. I have some hatching eggs coming today, and was looking for information for my first incubation period.

This thread CAPTIVATED me. Each new post, I was afraid that the little feller had perished. I am pleased that this community provided support, and that you were there to provide the care he needed to pull through.

Kudos to you and to the BYC Forum!

I have to agree with girlsaint. I started reading this thread this morning and couldn't stop. I had tears rolling down my face and my husband thought I was a lunatic.

What amazes me most is that there are so many experienced people here in these forums willing to help out and provide support in a crisis like this. These forums are what gave me the confidence to order my first chicks and I am very thankful that everyone is here!

And...GO CHICKY!!!!!

excellent work with this baby. I would leave him where he is with his stuffed buddy until that yolk sac dries up and falls off. Keep giving him his solution so he stays hydrated.

I hear your concern about the absorption of the yolk. Since the yolk is to provide nutrition for the first couple of days of the baby's life, wouldnt it make sense to feed him raw yolk if it doesnt absorb the entire thing? I am by no means an expert but I can be logical in my thinking.
This is so great that you got the little guy this far. Good luck to both of you. I bet it makes it if you can just keep nutrition and water in him.

Thank you all so much for your responses and encouragement... it means so much to me to know I have your support and help.

The chick is resting now... hopefully the worst is over. He is perfectly willing to drink, but is not interested yet in feeding. The yolk is relatively unchanged... drying a little bit, but at a very slow rate. The temp in his box has been about 98, but he has not been panting. He has been cuddling with his stuffed puppy.

More updates will come in a little while - I need to take a break so I can pay some much-deserved attention to my lovely husband and sons!
