Live minnows or crickets for my chickens?

so I told my son I was going to buy live minnows for my ducks, and he asked if I was going to give any to the chickens? Then i thought about getting some live crickets for the chickens so they could have some fun too!
Good idea?

My birds love minnows and crickets! As far as if it's a good idea, I'm not sure. I've never heard of anyone else giving their chickens these.

I’ve giving live crickets to mine leftover from fishing trips!

Live crickets are entertaining for chickens.

My flock find crickets when I let them out to free range. Although they end up catching all sorts of bugs, scorpions, salamanders, and centipedes.

My flock free ranges and the creek behind the house is full of minnows and crawdads and other tasty snacks. I did not teach them either. About 5 summers ago the creek ran almost completely dry and left untold amounts of dead and dying minnows for a few days. My old game hen was raising her first group of many chicks and she found them. From then on she has taught her chicks and the rest of the flock to fish. Before you try to have them fish them out themselves, toss a few smaller live ones in their direction. One brave one will snag it and then the chase is on and you may want to not watch the tug of war that could and probably will ensue. After that, shallow pan and live minnows and sit back and enjoy.

I have 2 to 3 inch scorpions in my yard sometimes, they sometimes find there way in the house also.

I give mine minnows and goldfish. I don't give them crickets (though I may start too), but they love mealworms.

I've given freeze dried minnows, & shrimp mix treats made for chickens for mine before. I can imagine live fish would be more entertaining for them though.
