Livestock Guardian Dogs

How big is your property, op? Some LGDs like to roam which simply wouldn't work on a small property even if it's out in the country.

I would recommend a good tempered karakachan (idk if I spelled that correctly) if you don't have experience with dogs. An antolian or an akbash (what my lgd in training is mixed with) would work great if you have some experience. I've also heard great things about the maremmas but I don't have experience with them. There are other breeds as well (odviously) that I don't have experience with and can't offer advice on.

My Great Pyrenees apparently didn't get the memo about being quiet. She had a mighty bark -- and because of her genetics, she kept watch at night, even when indoors. Rabbits, squirrels, stray leaves, nothing got past her gaze or her bark.

However, some people refer to them as disa-Pyrs. Because they do like to run off. Pearl could clear a 5-foot fence when properly motivated.
