Livestock protection dog?

I've always wanted to find someone who raised these. How neat!

TO the OP- I have Pyrs with my goats, horses, and all my feathered friends. The only trouble I have ever had from anyone of them is they like my ducks a little too well. They've never killed them but get pretty rough just playing in the pond with them.

I think I would go with a dog over a donkey myself. If you ever have such a problem with wild animals the donkey has much less of a chance. I have a friend who lost a donkey to a bear that he kept with his livestock and I had a friend whose donkey lost an ear to coyotes. As stubborn as they are they aren't really what I want for wild animals.

you need one of these...

A started young adult can be eaiser than a pup. It should come from a breeder that you have come to know and trust. The young adult can come with behaviour problems that will crop up when mooved to his new enviroment, These problems can be harder to change now that the dog is 100 plus pounds and has a mind of it's own.
A pup takes time. they like to play and sometimes will even try to play with their flock. The pluses of getting a pup are the behavioural problems are eaiser to change while the pup is still small. You can shape this little ball of fur into a great tool custom made for your farm. Rember a lg takes time to mature and you will not have full protection for a few years. When your pup starts getting on in years ,has been doing his job as expected, Get a new pup of the oppisit sex. Nothing traines a pup better than an established adult that knows what is expected of it.
