TO the OP- I have Pyrs with my goats, horses, and all my feathered friends. The only trouble I have ever had from anyone of them is they like my ducks a little too well. They've never killed them but get pretty rough just playing in the pond with them.
I think I would go with a dog over a donkey myself. If you ever have such a problem with wild animals the donkey has much less of a chance. I have a friend who lost a donkey to a bear that he kept with his livestock and I had a friend whose donkey lost an ear to coyotes. As stubborn as they are they aren't really what I want for wild animals.
