Living life on the edge (of the incubator) hatch-a-long

I may have to locate a good shrink after next weekend. This weekend's hatch is pushing me to the edge now. Over have have hatched a day early and now most have pipped and just stalled. Now I'm give out physically and it is past my bed time. I don't like going to bed with stalled pipped eggs but it is to early to interfere with them. By morning I'll have to get out the coconut oil and start a little checking for shrink wrapping. The humidity has been plenty high from 70-80% during lock down. I really want a nice fully auto cabinet model now. Just can't justify the expense from a marketing prospective.

If you find a good shrink, or even a good Chicken Anonymous group, let me know 🤣

I can't justify a cabinet incubator right now either, maybe someday, but for now the Brinsea is wonderful.

All I have is 5 of those trusty Styrofoam Hovabators. They work. They are a pain to clean. Right now I got up this morning to one that is in real mess. It is littered with bloody looking egg shells and these warm fuzzy looking noise makers.

I had a Blue Jersey Giant! She was the sweetest little thing (she wasn’t actually really little:rolleyes:). I highly recommend getting some. They are a gentle breed that lays large eggs, and they really well. And they are absolutely beautiful! I hope I can get some again.
There is only one hatchery that I know of that sells Blue JG. Otherwise you can really only get them on eBay. I was thinking maybe I should just get some white and black JGs so that I can just breed them myself… but who knows when I will be able to get a setup and room for that wish. :D
I want a jersey giant pullet or two so bad lol. I really do want a chicken variety lol.

White Jersey Giants are born a smokey gray color and then white feathering appears. May get some pictures tomorrow. That's a maybe. So many must do's to get done ASAP still. I have 2 incubators to get scrubbed and fully sanitized with OdoBan by tomorrow night. Need a brooder modified before the weekend. Need a small acreage tilled, limed and fertilized by the weekend. It's a crazy time of the year.

You are very busy indeed!

How many chicks and chickens do you have now!?!

Honest answer is I do not know. I'd have to go out and count each coop. I've sold off a lot of layers that I should have kept a few of but people came to buy and I sold all out of some before I could get the for sale signs down. Now I need to hit TSC for a few RIR hens. None of those left and I have a EE rooster that throws beautiful birds from them.
