Living off Social Security

I am so sorry for what you have endured. In a book about a poor Japanese laborer he made the choice to become homeless in a wealthy part of Tokyo because the garbage was higher quality and he was diabetic. There was a time before climate change when there was enough for everyone if it was distributed fairly. Now I’m not so sure. Best of luck to you!

Wealth is not divided fair. I sometimes do not feel like we can do something about it? Where I live we have a political system that only looks out for the rich; might get some hate for it; but Trump is no different. He does not understand what the troubles are of many people; he only libes in his bubble. It would be good if he traded places for 2 months with some Americans. Dutch politcians are the same. They are born in wealth and have a hard time to look at the other side. They actually think everyone had the same uprbringing as them :') With parents just giving them stuff :') I had to work for every penny from age 12.

The good side; Over here people are getting creative too. It might be out of poverty.. well it is most of the time.. to be fair.. but creativity is the base of new compagnies.

When was that exactly? World food productivity has been steadily increasing for decades.

https://ourworldindata.org/food-per-person

"The world produces enough food to feed everyone. For the world as a whole, per capita caloric availability and food diversity (the variety of food groups in a diet) have increased between the 1960s and 2011 (FAO, 2017). This growth in food availability, along with improved access to food, helped reduce the percentage of chronically undernourished people in lower-middle-income countries from about 30 percent in the 1990-92 to about 13 percent two decades later (FAO, 2017)."

Living on Social Security?
the answer is "do without"! get rid of everything that does not make a profit, I can't raise chickens that can compete with the egg price I saw today in the grocery store, 89 cents a dozen. Chickens for most of us are pets. Pets cost!
no dog, no horse, no lawn, no internet, no cable TV, find a place to live so you can get rid of your car.
might even need to get a sleeping bag in the winter so you can do without heat.

IN my case my land is paid for.... did that during the housing boom of 02-03. Its not a pretty house but its warm in the winter and cool in the summer... R factor double that of a regular house... one food thick walls. I heat with a potbelly stove in the main part of the house which is one bedroom one bath.

The Art studio I have converted partially into my master bedroom. Oil heater for there... Gets the room plenty hot and is Efficient. I hope one day to do a rocket stove mass heater for there.

I was living off of unemployment when I first moved up there... and was able to feed all the critters and myself. And do some repairs.

Is it adobe? A mass rocket heater would match that decor perfectly. I saw a video a while back where a guy made one from a wood frame that he filled with gravel. Faster than making cob.
Not adobe.... But a mobile home that has had a house built over the top. Found out when we gutted the bathroom.

Still I love the style of some of those houses... Cant afford to build new... so will make do...

Yeah and you can use them to heat water for the house.... I want to encorporate that feature eventually.

I heard about a guy who did that to avoid building permits. He built a house by expanding around and over a mobile home, then dismantled the MH.

I compliment you on your choices.

We, the members of BYC, each have a different set of life experiences. You have a great experience of the government providing for you during your period of need when you were unemployed. I have lived through eminent domain twice where the government took away my hopes and dreams.

definition:
Eminent domain refers to the power of the government to take private property and convert it into public use.

To be fair; that is the attitude I talk about. It is probably not the same in all country's; but I just don't have that option. We are a "rich" country with the "best" social securities..

I don't have TV, I have free internet from the bakery underneath me, no car, buy no clothes, nothing frivoulous. The ducks give me eggs and meat. Which is welcome since I can only rob the bakery underneath me of there leftover really sugary bread out of their dumpster bins. Vitamin shortage is a real thing! I have nothing that can be cut. And I still have troubles to buy food, contraception and my medication. It goes downhill fast; rapid. If my bike breaks; I can't go to job intervieuws; since I can't pay for repairing my bike I also can't pay public transport. IF I arrive there; and they want me; I need to buy a proof of good behaviour for 40 dollars.. well; since I don't have 2 dollars.. I can't buy that; can't get the job. I am not allowed to do voluntairy work to work on my resume. I'm only allowed to suddenly get an 40+ hour job; and guess what; there ain't none.

IF I would manage, ever, to save up some money; I will leave this country and buy a piece of land in the middle of nowhere and be a part of society. Land in Moldavia costs nothing; there are a lot of old people that need help; and I have mutiple educations for it; and will do it for free. Just because'community.

I'm not 100% on point what happens in the USA; but I see some same rules been pushed through like over here. Tax-benefits for the rich; and cuts for the poor. We don't have to pay for medical stuff; everyone pays like 30 dollars every month to take care of the sick. New rule; it would be cheaper to make it 130 dollars a month because a lot of (rich) people won't go to the docter then for "useless" stuff. For poor, often handicapped people; that's their whole food budget... so they.. either don't eat and/or not get the medical treatments they need...
