Lizzie?

i had a hen who layed eggs, then stopped and started to crow and jump the girls, what was all that about. she never layed again. i didn't have a cockerel. very weird.

The red comb and wattles mean she's either laying, or very close to laying.
When there is no rooster around, and especially since your head girl is gone, hens normally take on the lead as head hen, sometimes crowing, and jumping other hens. Sometimes they even stop laying!

This is interesting. My head girl definitely has more rooster-like qualities and her comb and wattles are huge and very red. I don’t have a rooster either.
