Load of chips arrived

Looks nice and fresh! Your set-up looks quite similar to mine. Do you put anything under the chips or directly on the mud?
I only put them down on Sunday. The tree was cut down last summer. I put them straight down. I was a bit worried about them scratching through and getting tangled up. I scraped and shovelled all the wet sloppy mess off the top. Thankfully it hasn't rained for a few days so it dried up some.

Looks great, I'm looking forward to that! I spread loads of these where the run will be, now the obvious area for walking, people and horses, to the pasture. Hopefully that'll age enough by spring to have them on it. And for now no more back strains from slipping and sliding.

I put mine straight on the ground too. The ground wasn’t too muddy because I only moved the chooks to their new area in October and it was grassy before. The grass only lasted two weeks! The chips have darkened to the colour of bark chips now but no muddy patches. Hardwood chips are definitely the best ground covering I’ve found.

Don't forget to turn them over once in a while. If you don't they will start to decompose in the middle like a compost heap. There great though
I don't know why I didn't do it sooner rather than struggle in the mud!

The grass is never going to grow back whilst there is hen on there so chippings are the best solution I think.

Got one of these?
Best tool ever for 'shoveling' wood chips.
