Two of my friends have been sold birds by a local man who knowingly has some type of respiratory ailment going on. What in the heck would you do in this situation?

He brings his birds to the swap which also doubles as a show in early fall. I am now worried about going, where I was very excited a week ago.

Here is a bird two days after being purchased. Any idea what this could be?

“Signs of illness are sniffing, runny nose and eyes, puffy eyes, swelling in the face around the eyes, labored breathing (beak open) and the D'Uccles was wheezing but seem healthy otherwise.”

I have never visited her farm or vice versa, so I know my own birds are safe, but that doesn't make this any less sad.

Her own flock is showing signs of infection and they are not even integrated yet.

Does this look/sound like ILT to anyone? Coreyza? CRD?

Any help will be much appreciated. ILT is a reportable disease, and the DOA has 3 birds for testing. If it comes back positive, the entire flock will be exterminated. Even ones that were vaccinated.

This happens much more than we would like to think....many illnesses are knowingly spread and the ones doing it just don't care.

I'm sorry your friend is going through this. Please let us know what the testing uncovers. This is how I ended up with Marek's in my flock....

I just can't believe someone would wish this on anyone. He even sold sick birds to a 14 year old kid and infected that young man's flock.

She is going to be calling the DOA today and I will let you know if she hears anything. It's just so frustrating. Especially since she is working on a breed that is so rare and important to us Canadians.

Quite honestly, I avoid these chicken swaps and auctions like the plague, for the plague is pretty much that which I fear.
I would never bring anything home from them. I showered after the June sale that we went to in which he was in attendance. My shoes were my regular outdoor shoes, and not my barn boots that I wear every time I go down to my own barn, but I washed them in the washing machine anyway. Speckledhen's thread really had me properly trained :) I just wish I could have told my friend about this before she went ahead and bought the birds.

If it is ILT, my birds will be safe from it when I bring them to show, as they have all been vaccinated. I wouldn't even bring any birds in if I had a suitable quarantine place. They would HAVE to be ILT vaccinated and from someone I know practices proper biosecurity, and even then, I'd be iffy.
