Local Man Selling Infected Poultry Knowingly

What are you using to treat?  If you used Corid, there is no withdrawal period.

Using Amprol (corid) and it's the vet that said I couldn't consume the eggs for 3 weeks after treatment. I don't consume any of the eggs as I incubate them all and I forgot to ask the vet about the effect of Amprol on incubating eggs.:/

Well I learned today that you are not suppose to talk about how lucky you are that you haven't lost a chicken yet this summer due to weather. The last 3 days have been excrutiatingly hot, and with my flock being not really healthy still, we did loose an Australorp today. The saddest part is we are not even home to dispose of it properly as work has us both of town. My mother, who looks after my birds while I'm away, just called to tell me one didn't make it. I am going to be positive and believe the heat did it, and not illness.

As for the virology results, it will be another 1 and a half. So all this time, we still don't know whats wrong with our birds. :(

I'm sorry to hear that :( Was it the Australorp you were nursing back to health?

Well I don't know wether I should be happy or.burst into tears of exasperation. The good news is I doubt it is ILT, the bad news is because my chantecler are sick thats the reason I know it is not ILT as they are vaccinated. As Justine says it all point towards CRD. But I have yet to receive the results from the virology testing. This is so frustrating.

So sorry you have been dealing with this tragedy. Frustrating and worrisome.

I have read all the way thru and hope you have discovered the cause of the problem and have been able to get the birds treated. AN update would relieve the stress of not knowing the cause of this crisis.

THis thread has served as a good reminder why I buy from NPIP stock; no guarentees but at least it is something. THe big hatcheries do test for a multitude of diseases from what I understand. I have reduced the foot traffic on the farm since acquiring the birds to protect them. Of course coccidia is everywhere. But all the other diseases scare the pants off me. I had hoped to close the flock this year--and after all this reading may just do that. ANd continue to limit foot traffic. ANd not go to swaps!

The shows here in MA require testing; and the two big swaps also require testing. HOwever, the point has been made repeatedly that this testing does not cover everything a bird can have or carry. Makes a person pause and think.

Results came in Friday, and the birds had nothing more then the chicken version of Pink eye. It is contagious because of flies and mosquitoes. Now I was so excited to hear they have nothing that antibiotics can't cure that I forgot the medical term but Justine suggest Conjunctivitis. I will call DOA again tomorrow to ask them. Everybody is on cocci treatement until Friday then after I will put them on antibiotics for 10 days then we should be fine.
