I woke up to a new face. There are 4 now and one pip. There are 4 more eggs in there but 2 aren't due yet. There is one that is due that there is movement from but no pip. I always give them 25 days then to an eggtopsy. ONce when I did that there was a live chick with yolk still attached. I wrapped it in a wet papertowel and kept it moist and the next day it was ready. If I had just given it 1 more day, but who knows.

I always do an eggtopsy, glad I do. I would have killed that one.

Ok- here's pics of my final (I think) tally:
Yes- I am searching for a bigger box. All the rain we had in the SE made everything soggy & moldy. Yuck!

This is a little cochin frizzle- didn't think she was going to hatch:

Today is day 21 and I had 2 hatch last night and one around 2 am. Then when I got up there was #4. I still have 3 more to go and one of those has pipped.

How long can I hold eggs back to put in the bator before they are no good? They have been kept in an air conditioned room at between 72 and 75 degrees.I think the oldest are 6 days old.

I don't want to put them in the bator right now because my humidity is 79% and I keep having to re-adjust the temp for some reason. I guess because of the hatching chicks maybe. It goes down instead of up and I have one hole plugged. Should I plug the other one? Its the one that is bringing in fresh air through the fan. I"m using a LG.

Would it be safe to put the eggs in now with the humidity so high and temp irregular?

Here's a pic of the 4. One is hiding up at the top and the newest one is huddled with the other 2. Check my thermometer, see the temp. I did open the window long enough to snap this pic. I only open it to take out shell when they hatch and to snap a pic.

emvickrey-
I have put eggs in that were 2 weeks old and got a 95% hatch rate. They were not shipped obviously. If I were you- I'd wait until this hatch is over, clean out the bator (if you have one like mine-just clean the bottom so you don't have to readjust temp controls)
and start your next hatch.

Congrats on the new ones! Your pic didn't show up tho

They are just adorable.

As far as a box, I use a 20 gallon aquarium and put an expandable screen over the top. If they need warmth I put a towel over that. When I have several like you do, I have a large clear plastic tub I use. I don't put the plastic lid on it as it holds too much humidity, I use the screen. I have it rigged where when they get a little older I put a perch in it low enough they can get practice perching. I have had a conciderable about of luck with these. I lay down this sheeting stuff we have a big roll of that people use to lay between their floor and those floor panels that make the floor look like wood. Then I put a little wood shavings to absorb poop when they're a little older about a week. That way they can learn to pec at the food that is on the floor first. They're poop is't as messy then. I change the what I call brooders as needed. The older they get the more often it has to be cleaned. This way they can stay in the house and get used to us also.

Just thought I would put that idea out there. It might be helpful.

That said, here are my 4 I have so far. I'm having a problem with my temps going down but I put that in another post so I won't repeat myself here. All of my eggs this time around are from 1 EE hen. 3 are a dark mixture of colors and one is yellow and grey. That one is almost hidden at the top. You can see its butt. They haven't fluffed up yet either.
