Lock down starting tomorrow

I'm thinking of trying to put my egg/chicks under a broody that I have.

It should be about tonight or tomorrow.

Daughters and I are going to get more eggs today from a farm near us so maybe they will do better. How long and at what temps can I hold them til I can incubate as I have 2 that are in lockdown right now? How long should I keep the eggs in the bator before I know they are not going to hatch and can I candle to check after so many days? The ones I am getting are RIR's my daughter favorite

sorry if I am hacking post dont mean to be

I hold mine in a carton on the kitchen counter for no longer than two weeks. Ideally one week.

One end of the carton is raised. Everyday I change ends and raise the other side.
I keep eggs in the bator no longer than two days after the hatch. I will get a nail and crack open the big end to check for life. I never throw out eggs without checking first.

Its hard to candle after day 17 or 18. Its so tight inside the eggs. Hard for the little guy to move.
Hacking..... were all here to learn.

I just put 2 pips under a broody hen. She's on them now. My goal is to have her raise all the chicks. I can hear some more pipping in the bator. I hope this works.

The broody thing was a train wreck. She was smashing them.

I went ahead and took them away. They finished hatching in the bator. Got lots of chicks and more still pipping.

Got lots of chicks. All OEGB creles. 4 pullets and 5 cockrels. Lots of boys to pick from in 5 months.
