I got up at 7:15 to two angry Welsh corgis reminding me that they expected to be fed at 5:00 A.M. sharp. I stepped over them and went into the room with the incubator and looked in just in time to see the first one lift the top of the eggshell off. It's a blue one. It only took him about five minutes to crawl out of the egg, over to the edge of the egg carton, and on to the rubber mat awaiting his/her arrival. The humidity shot from 68% to 72% during those five minutes, so I figured that I'd better remove the red plug; hopefully, that will help dry the chick, check the humidity's getting too high, and give more fresh air. Hope I did the right thing removing the plug. I'll have to watch the humidity today, all day, I guess. Gotta go see my "firstborn"... Good luck on YOUR big day; keep us posted. Pictures later
EDIT one minute later: Dang, I just stood up to go look at the new one, looked in and saw the second one's lifting the eggshell cap up. Have to go back now; don't want to miss anything.
BTW, that chick was not even zipping when I began this post. Speedy Gonzales! LATER!
