LOCKDOWN QUESTIONS

Hey guys thought I'd ask you lovely lot a question as I see different things online I've done my final candling and set up for lockdown tonight for 4 cayuga ducks none have internally pipped yet but are trying as can see them pushing on the membrane. Now some things I've read say not to lockdown until internal pip some say 3 days before expected hatch date, there expected hatch date is Wednesday but do I wait for internal pips or just leave well alone now, I'm worried about one that has a full side air sack and I can't work out where he's trying to pip but I think it maybe at the smaller end so be keeping in close eye on this one to hopefully get him through the hatch if he has any difficulty. Thanks in advance guys xx attached pics of one trying to internally pip
Ive never locked down and I will happily open my incubator if i need to check or assist a duckling, never lost one due to doing this ever, even when I had a whole pile of ducklings from different (abandoned) nests all hatching at different days and times and the incubator was like grand central station for a few days lol being opened what felt like every 5 minutes. Every egg with a live duckling in it hatched just fine and survived, grew up into a normal healthy adult duck, etc. A ducks nest doesn't have a lid or a way to lock down her nest and yet they usually hatch as high as, or higher % of eggs as an incubator. So imo, just based on personal experience, lockdown is over rated and it makes me sad when I see posts where ppl are too afraid to open an incubator and let hatchlings in trouble die, rather than breach the lockdown.

Reply thanks Kimmy, I can't leave them knowing they're all tapping and now cheeping away in there I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't help I feel abit better now they've all got air holes with them taking there sweet time to externally pip lol but hopefully they won't need more intervention but I've everything ready and keeping a close eye on the little quacklets xx

This is pretty much what I do too. I’m careful to open and close the incubator quickly, but I won’t hesitate to help as often as needed. My first hatch, out of 29 that survived to lockdown, 28 hatched. 2nd batch, 20 out of 20 survived

Update: we have an external pip that 1 is the 1 peeping away they others are still just tapping

So guys were still only on 1 external pip the 2 others are tapping strong so don't think they'll be far behind but I'm worried about the side air cell one it's barely moving and no tapping should I interven and open the air hole a little more see if I can see there's no bruising but I can't see the beak either

Has it internally pipped?
