It's pretty quiet here this morning........ We hatched out 8 of 9. The 9th one is still in the incubator. It does not look like anything is going on with it????? No pips and no movement or rocking. It is day 22.
Last night was a different story. The last 3 hatches were interesting. I had one chick that had piped and started to zip and for hours just kept pecking at the same place where it was already zipped I was thinking it was dried in the shell and could not move in spite of 80 humidity.
My Brahama piped and came out of the small end. Then must not have absorbed the yoke all the way and was dragging a trail along. The other chicks were brutal.......... to say the least. Whether right or wrong I decided to intervene and grabbed the 7 healthy chicks and put them in the brooder. While in there I sprayed the chick stuck in the shell with warm water and cracked the shell a bit more with my hands and shut the lid.
It immediately got quiet................... The 7 chicks were exploring the brooder.
The chick in the shell started to push and push and finally broke out. ( I got a movie of it on my camera)
So in the incubator was the poor brahama chick that was violated and I suspected was not going to live through the night. He had the company of the assisted hatch and the egg that just sat there.
We went to bed.....
This morning the brahama was dead.
The assisted chick a bit stickey but healthy. It was moved to the brooder.
The egg was still just an egg???? I will give it awhile yet. It is day 22.
