As for the light issue, I guess I have enough flashlights (both rechargeable battery type and hand crank type) and candles that I could create as much light as I really needed to do these things. I even have the kind you strap to your forehead so that you still have both hands free. If you don't have flashlights, oil lamps, candles, etc. that you can use then it would be difficult to try those things.
heck, if the power was going to be out long enough to kill my eggs, I might even set the eggs in a tray in my (electric) oven & put a candle or two inside the oven to take the temp up. The oven would have to stay up a hair to have some oxygen, but it might be enough to keep the temp up around 100.
