Locked Down-Vanilla Pics - last Pics

I didn't mean to run it long enough to run down the battery, of course. You'd have to run the car from time to time to keep the battery charged. This would obviously not work for a long power outage.

As for the light issue, I guess I have enough flashlights (both rechargeable battery type and hand crank type) and candles that I could create as much light as I really needed to do these things. I even have the kind you strap to your forehead so that you still have both hands free. If you don't have flashlights, oil lamps, candles, etc. that you can use then it would be difficult to try those things.

heck, if the power was going to be out long enough to kill my eggs, I might even set the eggs in a tray in my (electric) oven & put a candle or two inside the oven to take the temp up. The oven would have to stay up a hair to have some oxygen, but it might be enough to keep the temp up around 100.

This is the first egg to hatch the greenish one. Hatched right after he unzipped. He's a little speed demon. It's got to be a loud little male. In the morning I'll take a picture after he goes into the brooder. He may be alone for awhile. Thought he was white but as he dries am starting to see a stripe.

He is still in the incubator and is quiet now.
He had a nice long nap last night. He is still alone and probably will be for awhile.

I am thinking this afternoon for the shipped eggs. early I know but they probably started incubating when they hit Houston before the turnaround. Heat Index then was over 100 degrees.

When he starts screaming, I will move him so he can eat and drink. I still can't decide what color. I think white. But sometimes I think Gold. Hard to see, my bator fogs.

It was 42 degrees outside this morning. Who told you Northerners to send cold weather down here, so early. Now I have to build a wooden brooder for outside for this hatch. Or move my chicken teens out of the Brooder House to the Hen House real early. It was not supposed to be so cold so early. Maybe DH will let them hang out in the garage. I'm in trouble if it doesn't warm up.

What happened to Fall - 3 days doesn't count. & tell JJMR that I wore my flip flops out to do my chores, and thought my toes were going to freeze. GEEEEEEZZZ.

It looks awfully yellow to be a golden, but if it has stripes that's what it will be. Any others hatch yet?

No more yet. He has no stripes, he was slicked down from the humidity. Well I guess that seeing no one else wants to come out and play yet, I'll just have to take a current picture. Give me a few minutes.

He is a white and he is lightly covered in fluff, so he looks kind of stripey in the pics but he isn't. His head spot is starting to show now that he is eating. He eats and drinks good, has already messed up the brooder. He is also camera shy.

ETA: One of my young whites carries either golden or cinnamon. 'She'

does not have a brown head spot, but I can't tell for sure what color it is. Maybe that's what this little fella is?

That would make sense, because his head is just starting to look like a shadow. Just tonight. I;m going to turn temp. up a bit tonight for him, seeing he is alone.

But it is still early. I was thinking the others would pop this afternoon but tomorrow afternoon is really just day 17. I don't expect mine until day 18 or 19 with the cool down, Sunday.

Vanilla was just really impatient to get on with life. Speedy fits him better, but GD will insist I am sure. She lays claim to all white birds hatched at Grammys. I only get to feed, water, protect and not let them suffer if anything happens to them. She's 5.

The whites always seem to hatch earlier than the rest here, not sure what's up with that. Hope Speedy Vanilla has a brooder buddy to snuggle with! Those stupid McD's stuffed animal toys come in handy for something!
