Does anyone know what could cause this? I believe she is about 5 years old. Red star breed. Saw her looking “off” and figured it was a soft shelled egg. Saw something dark in it after she passed it and this is what I found. Never seen anything like it. When I poked through the red it was regular yoke with blood coming from the red part. The red part was very vascular with a lot of blood vessels spreading through it seen in pic 2. She gets adequate calcium and lays normally other than this anomaly plus a previous soft egg about a week ago.

Thanks for any advice.

She has been laying eggs. This one just popped out while I ran into the house to get a glove in case she needed help with the membrane coming out. I had an avian vet tell me once that bc the uterus can expand eggs can pass around other eggs. I think it must have been inside her for a while with regular eggs bypassing it.

Well, that sounds possible to me. It would not of lived in a soft shell anyway or that would of been something else but Wow ! Pretty cool.
