lone duck egg hatching NOW..advice needed please

i wouldnt be sur but i would say put a tablespoon per litre

oh that sounds about right....i just put 2 drops in half a cup full of water, and tried to give him some off a teaspoon...he had a couple of sips, so i'll try and get a syringe tomorrow, and see if i can find some liquid niacin, cos i'm reading everywhere to give that to young ducklings

well its ok that his not standing but if you touche him or picked him up would he open his eyes

i wouldnt tri a syrange becouse the liquid migth go down his windpipi would keep trying with the spoon its good that he got the few sips migth give him energy to open his eyes and walk

no it's as if he's a little kitten with his eyes still sealed shut!

i had him on a warm hot water bottle to keep him warm for the minute he was out of the bator, and he wriggles like mad, he just can't find his feet yet!

he's cheeping tho, and dragging himself round the bator

no bother could you try to get a picture of his eyes for me to see what they look like.

not sure if you can see his eyes in this pic...it just looks like a kitten's or puppy's eyes when they're born.....i saw a pin prick of black pupil when i had hold of him, as if they've just started to "unseal" themselves

are they usually born with them open or closed?

ducklings are usually allways born with there eyes open becouse they imprint on the first living thing they see and they automaticcly think its there mama hopefully he will open his eyes if he dose everthing should be fine

i've just gently wiped his eyes with a cotton bud, dipped in cool boiled water, and they were gunked up!

he can't open them fully yet, but he's had them open, and i'll check them again in a couple of hours

thats great he should be great now ont be to bothered about the standing he will do that in his own time now that he knows your his mammy and he will be able to find his food in a sort time you can put him in the brooder anytime now if you want

I think he's exhasted because he's wasn't supposed to be born by now... because you removed most of the shell... but don't worry he's going to satand up when his body is ready... because his body is still working as if he's still hatching with eyes closed and everything.... soo glade and happy he managed to absorb the yolk.. he's just like babies that are born early and put in the incubator... he hasn't fluffed up because hos feathers are sticking to each other because of the assisted hatch and lack of moisture during that assistance.... that always happens if I assist to a hatch outside the standard conditions of hatching... you can gently rub the feathers till they fluff.... because he needs to control his temperature with good and fluffy feathers... hope everything goes well with him... abd that's a lesson learned to not touch hatchong eggs for you in the future....
The first duchlig is sooo exciting....
