Lone ducklings joined my flock.

And now here are some pics from today. They had a blast playing in the rain/mud with their big brothers and sisters. Totally made up for not being allowed in the pond.

They look great! Please keep posting pics as time progresses, I'm really interested to see what they turn out looking like.

They are so cute I love the awkward teenage phase. I think they are going to be gorgeous when feathered out. Looks like your Pekins have accepted them into the fold too.

The babies are doing great, their wings are feathering out nicely. I'll get some updated pictures today.

A new update too: One of the three seems to have a malformed crest. Initially I thought it was only ruffled feathers on his head, but I was able to feel it while holding her the other day. It's fatty. Honestly, this makes me a little angry. My immediate thought is that these were the uncrested "mistakes" from an attempt at crested breeding.

Well bless their hearts they were dumped at your place. Look forward to pics.

Oh, they're so cute! I would still say they're a runner mix, definitely not a purebred anything. I wonder if the Pekins resemble a parent or something. It looks like the older ducks are getting along well with them.

We have had crested ducks show up at our lake. I don't think that the people who dump them even know anything about crested and their special issues.

:/ At least they dump them off on you! But I see the one with the crest in your pictures!

At the feeds store there were half crests, two small crests,or just little crests on the ducklings. The two crests was the cutest :p

Can't wait for pictures!

Welp, it's been 3 months since these kids showed up- It's time for some pics! At this time, I'm assuming they're about 4 months old, give or take a few weeks. Brulee did end up being a boy, and Flan is indeed a girl. Mallow, however, has showed himself as a striking little man rather than the hen I thought he was. His crest has fanned out a little.

(^ Brulee, the first duckling posted on this thread.)

(^ Mallow, slightly crested)

(^ Flan, who happens to have heterochromia. Her other eye is blue.)

While Flan and Mallow are still wary, all three will come to me when I'm outside in hopes of a treat. If I'm out of sight, they've learned to run up to the house at a whistle!

They are absolutely fantastic ducks. As it is, it seems they will be slightly larger than my pekins. Even so they have a huge wingspan and -are- able to fly. Their wings were partially clipped once last month, but they still manage to get out of their pen. I would correct this if they weren't so terribly smart...every morning, after 'breakfast', they leave the pen and their friends to waddle down to the pond. They never go in, but just rest on the edge, catch frogs, etc. If allowed to do as they like, they'll stay there all day and return for dinner and bedtime. Not that they necessarily need it- they're wonderful hunters and scavengers, unlike the others.

When spring comes around I'd like to breed them. For BYC members only, I'd like to offer a few of Flan's eggs to anyone interested...Free, aside from shipping. I'll make a separate thread I suppose when the time comes. They're just such unique ducks. I'd love to share them.
