hello, I am new to this group.
I got 2 chicks back in April 2021 and this morning when I went to to feed them one of them had passed.
what can I do so my other chick doesn’t feel alone?

Welcome to BYC. Sorry to hear about your chick. The easiest thing you could do is get another chick. But if that’s not possible spend as much time with your chick as possible, take him out and hang out with him when you’re watching tv, folding laundry, etc. When you’re not able to be with him, put a mirror with him and a stuffed animal to give him some “company”.

If I get younger chicks will there be a problem?

It depends how young, they should be around his age otherwise he could trample them and he could bully them. I’d say a week younger is fine and a week older is fine. And if they are different breeds and he ends up being the same size as them that’s fine too.

I would check Craigslist for pullets around the same age. +/- a few weeks is fine, but I wouldn't put a baby chick in with your big one.

Or, you could get two or more brand new chicks and keep them separated from your big one so they can see and hear but not touch each other for a few weeks.

Good luck!
