Forgot to mention, when I hatched out 11 Buttons from Charlene ( featheredobsessions ) one hatched a day early and he was all along for a day. I put a fluffy Stuffed wolf in the brooder and he ran under it and snuggled up and went to sleep!

Even when all 11 hatched I kept it in there and they all LOVED IT TO DEATH!

Mine have a stuffed turkey hen when they are small. Quail babies with a mama turkey...

I don't reccomend putting him with chickens unless you want sick birds. As for the single chick problem you could go to a nearby hatchery and buy any extras that they have.

My apologies if this has been answered somewhere else, but what is the sickness issue between quail and chickens? is it a mutual thing? one way or the other?

Also, I have put a beanie baby kiwi in the brooder with our lone chick. unfortunately, it is a button quail, and I don't have any close hatcheries to dash to

It is mutual, but it has a lot more of an affect on game birds. The game birds will usually get a disease called Coryza. You will notice it because the bird's eyes and nose could be inflamed.

GAMEBIRD SPECES ARE 1000X'S MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO COMMON POULTRY ILLNESSES THAT OTHER POULTRY CARRIES. ITS USUALLY A 1 WAY STREET THO CAN WORK IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, THERE ARE REFERENCES TO NEWCASTLES BEING SPREAD TO CHICKENS FROM COTURNIX. AS ROBO SUGGESTED CORYZA IS A VERY COMMON ILLNESS AND ITS USUALLY FATAL TO THE GAMEBIRD, IF NOT FATAL THEN THE SUBJECT BECOMES A CARRIER ONCE OVER THE ILLNESS AND IS THEREBY USELESS AS IT CANNOT BE IN CONTACT WTH OTHERS OR IT WILL INFECT THEM.

2 BIGGEST PROBLEMS WITH ILLNESS IN QUAIL- #1 THEY DONT RESPOND TO COMMON ANTIBIOTIC LIKE CHICKENS DO. ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY IN GAMEBIRDS IS DIFFICULT AND EXPENSIVE. IN MOST CASES IT CONSISTS OF COMBINATION THERAPY SUCH AS BAYTRIL (VET ONLY) AND ANOTHER DRUG (USUALLY NOT AN EASY TO OBTAIN ONE...) #2 THE CARRIER CONVERSION THING, WHICH FROM A PRACTICAL STANDPOINT RENDERS THE INFLICTED BIRD USELESS AND A POTENTIAL DANGER TO REINFECTION OF YOUR FLOCK. KIND OF MAKES TREATMENT A MOOT POINT FROM A UTILITARIAN VIEW... I MEAN ASIDE FROM THE PET FACTOR WHY TREAT A SICK ANIMAL IF ALL YOUR DOING IS EITHER WASTING TIME AND MONEY TO HAVE IT DIE ANYWAYS, OR CREATING THE QUAIL VERSION OF TYPHIOD MARY WHO'S GONNA LURK AROUND YOUR FARM WAITING FOR THE CHANCE TO WREAK INFECTIOUS HAVOK ON EVERYBODY ELSE?
