lonely chick.

Try placing a mirror in with him. He has imprinted on you and will cry because he regards you as his mother. He also needs to be kept at 90 F.

I don't have a mirror small enough for him. Will get it tomorrow.
Here are pics right now. The last is him sleeping under my hair.

from my experience, chicks need a mum or siblings to keep them company, this chick is very alone and has obviously imprinted on you, it may actually hurt it to detach yourself to it since chicks can actually die from loneliness. the chick you see in my profile pic is one I raised my self and required constant contact with me to be quiet and happy, through the night It was in a brooder and did cry but would queit down once it realised no one was there, until other chicks hatch I recommend you keep this chick with you whenever you can and in its brooder at night, you can even make a little pouch that hangs over your neck to put the chick in during the day so you can multitask as I did, I know that sounds weird but you have to be a mummy to this chick, your all she has now! this can be very difficult mind you but this is only til the other chicks hatch, aside from this you could buy a chick from a feed store to keep it company.

Question: how big is the pocket?

Alright, made a pocket for him and it worked! :wee He calmed down and fell asleep ! Now, sad to take him out to place him in the brooder :(. Anyway, here are these pictures of my attempts to create a pocket for him. In all three, he's in it!:jumpy I think I made it too big but at least he has room.

Sorry didn't want to load pictures but I'm just as happy. Gotten a mirror as suggested this morning, and it's amazing! He kept watched no himself. I had to do errands and hope all will be ok when I get back.

i would look for another chick or two to go with him. we had this happen with my duckling only one manage to hatch and he would quack for me all the time, i found some more ducklings for him.

When I incubated eggs one of my chicks hatched one or two days earlier than the others so she started thinking us as the mother and always wanted to cuddle with us. She was really excited when all of the rest hatched though. Just can't resist that pic, love it!
