Lonely Chick??

I put 18 eggs in the incubator and all were fertile except all part from two died at a early age and had blood rings? Im thinking it was because i didn't store them correctly and they were only pullet eggs.
Two chickens were growing but one we cracked open thinking it was dead because when we candled there was no movement and 3 days late but it turned out it was actually alive but soon died because of blood loss.. :[ but the other is in the middle of hatching and im wandering what i should do to keep it company?? any suggestions would be helpful

Hi IndianRunners02,

Once the chick hatches out you can place a small stuffed animal inside the brooder with the lonely little chick. It's not much, but I have read of others doing this. If the chick is nice and strong you may wish to inquire about purchasing another chick (or two) to raise with this one. The first few days it may not notice it's alone, but chicks don't do well alone, so a flock mate is advisable.

Were looking for some chicks for him but no one around here seems to have any around his age
I was considering to put a stuffed animal in with him but i wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do or if it would even help

Out of 18 eggs only 1 hatched? :O so sorry! First hatches (or just bad hatches) always suck.
I'd go to the feed store a get a little companion for him, if they still have chicks.

A docile chick that's a bit older by a week or so will work too. Millie Fleur d' Uncles, Silkies, and Cochin to name a few. If this lone chick is from a full sized fowl, the older chick of the above breeds will work out just fine. I have learned to get more than one additional chick when purchasing, however, just because stuff happens.

Thanks for the advice guys!! we put in a stuffed toy but it didn't quite work so we have a small blanket/tea towel that he loves to snuggle up in :] we found someone who had some day old chicks and were picking them up tomorrow because our little chick is very lonely and its just cruel if we don't get him a some friends :] thanks again!
