Lonely chick

I have raised chicks before but they were together and had each other. For the first time I have had chicks hatch from under broody hens, I have gotten 3 chicks so far but one got rejected and got beaten up pretty badly by the hens. The poor little thing was hurt badly and is now by itself. He or she keeps chirping and chirping looking for a friend. We put a soft toy in the little box and Zosimos (his or her name means survivor) snuggled up and was quietly chatting to the toy but Zos started to get abit distressed when there was not reply. What should I do to keep Zos company, get another chicken? A mirror? Or just leave it.

Many folks do use a mirror to help a lonely youngster, but another chick is even better.

Ok, thanks. I have another question.
Zos has not opened his eyes after he got attacked and it has been 5 hours since it. Should I be concerned?

Yes, you should be concerned. With a chick this age about the only thing you can do is give adequate warmth and ample food and water. Is she trying to eat?

I don't know. It can't see because her eyes wont open

You can try to apply a moistened tissue to the face and carefully pry the eyes open.

Does the chick have eyes? Sometimes chicks will hatch without eyes. If this is the case the only thing you can do is humanely end her life.

I put a drop of water on each eye and she has opened them.

She is so sweet. I had a lonely bird too.i lost my flock to a virus all but one who I kept seprate.i put a toy in her area until I could get her some friends. Today her friends shipped in and she accepted them right away!! She is so happy she now has friends!!
