I am not familiar with ducks or their needs, but at the hospital I work at we have a pond with a pair of ducks, one mallard and one pekin. They were best buds and inseparable. Then one day a fox got into the garden and got the mallard. Now the pekin duck is all alone and acting differently. Maybe it’s to catch the breeze from the air conditioning now that it’s getting hot, but it has been hanging around the entrance to the hospital more often. It just sits there and sleeps. It still comes up to us when we go out to say hi. Maybe it’s our imagination but think it’s quacking softer too.

Is this duck ok by himself or should we be advocating for him to get another buddy?

Just looking for some advice. Thanks.

He might be a little lonely, sad about its biddy, or sick. There are things to think about when introducing new dycks to each other, such as disease from either one.
