Ormond Beach Florida
I had a small backyard flock of 4. Beautiful Light Brahmas. I called the, Pink Ladies. I lost 2 of my girls while away on vacation, last year, to a possum. My 2 remaining girls have done very well considering and the duo has adjusted well to the smaller flock. However, a few months ago, I began having some health issues with my sweet Rizzo. We have fought long and hard, but sadly, she passed away today. I am absolutely heartbroken. And looking at Marty all alone.... hurts even more.
My sweet Marty, who was always lead Hen, has spent the last couple of days alone outside, while her sick companion rested inside. Now, she is completely alone. I don’t know what to do. I love my girl so much, but I know that chickens should never live a solitary life. It’s not fair to her. So while it kills me, I need to find her a new home. Im hoping to find a small flock, no Roo, and preferably close. (Maybe someone who wouldn’t mind sending a pic from time to time and keeping me posted) This girl seriously means so much to me. She is not just a chicken to me and I NEED her to go to someone who understands this and cares for their birds with lots of LOVE and COMPASSION. I need to know she will go to a good home where she can spend her final years being spoiled and loved.
SHE IS NOT FOOD.
She is strong. Beautiful. Healthy. I’ve never had any heath issues with her. She will be 4 in March. I still get eggs occasionally. With this heat, they would always stop laying during summer months and again during winter.
She survived a raccoon attack a couple of years ago. After being inside recovering for 3 wks, she quickly became my favorite girl. She was at the top of the pecking order, but is so sweet. She will never peck or chase you. Honestly, the best bird you could ask for. If you are interested, please let me know. I just keep telling myself, someone, will be the right fit for my girl and see this. Thanks for reading my ramble

Where are you located? I’m in the DFW area of Texas and looking for another hen for my single hen. She would be a house chicken, but with supervised outdoor time.

I’m in Ormond By the Sea Florida. That would be great! Just too far. I really appreciate your interest and if you can think of anyone closer, please let me know. This will be her first day alone and I’m nervous to see how she handles it. Breaks my heart

Well, the reason I have a single hen is because the flock kicked her out. They nearly killed her so now she lives in my house and is a perfectly content spoiled queen. I’m sure people think I’m weird and i dont know your situation, but that arrangement has worked for her and me and then you could keep her! Best of luck!

While being alone is not ideal, some birds can tolerate it ok. My hen was always a loner, she spent much of her life, (she's 8 years old now) sleeping alone, free ranging alone, dust bathing alone, she never had buddies in the flock for some reason. I too was worried when her last sister died this past April, I was sure my remaining hen would be a wreck. But she is coming up on 6 months being alone and seems to be thriving, I do spend a ton of time with her, she has a big mirror she likes to stay close to, I keep a radio on during the day for her and a clock that ticks 24/7 in the coop. We free range together, she comes down to the house for goodies, I sit with her on my lap in the coop for hours each day. I don't recommend just keeping 1 bird, but if you are down to 1 last bird in the flock, some can still do ok if given enough attention.

I'm thinking you are her flock. :thumbsup
