Lonely Hen needs a new flock. Please Help!

That’s awesome! My girl is also 8 and she rules the house. She gets very excited when I come home and makes happy clucks. She’ll sit on the couch and we’ll just hang out. It’s definitely possible to have a house bird. I hope yours adjusts well but I’m thinking it won’t be much of a problem at all! Speckles has a play pen set up for the day and then she can free roam when I’m home. It’s those foam puzzle piece mats with newspaper on top and fenced in with a portable dog fence. If you have any questions or anything, always feel free to message me!

Awww....adorable!! :love

Well, the reason I have a single hen is because the flock kicked her out. They nearly killed her so now she lives in my house and is a perfectly content spoiled queen. I’m sure people think I’m weird and i dont know your situation, but that arrangement has worked for her and me and then you could keep her! Best of luck!

If you can't find a new buddy for Marty (I'll bet somebody near you has a retiree they'd like to share!) you could give her a shot at being your buddy. House Chickens Rock!

We have an outdoor flock and an indoor rooster with coop-visiting privileges. Herman, a Silkie, spends his nights and evenings indoors in an oversized wire kennel, think St Bernard sized. He is outdoors every day and has a special talent for playing "Nanny" to any youngsters in the grow-out pen. But when it's bedtime, Herman's ready to come in. He wanders the house on occasion, always supervised and only in the uncarpeted family areas, sometimes in a diaper (which he loathes, but tolerates!) He even has his own movie-watching blanket, for lap protection. We haven't figured out how to Herman-proof a popcorn bowl, so he usually has his own ... no butter or salt, of course!

A chicken-buddy outside would probably be best, but don't rule out an indoor people-buddy. If you think chicken TV is fascinating in the yard, wait til you watch it in your living room!

Aww, Herman sounds awesome!
What a lucky lil guy! Not many Roos have it so good!
She has always done well inside. They both were indoor/outdoor chickens. Ever since I lost my other 2, I’d bring them inside any chance I got. They like to watch me cook dinner and have slept inside for months. Sometimes, during the hottest part of the afternoon, I’d bring them in the ac for a bit. I am just worried about her feeling lonely not having another of her kind to hang out and do “chicken stuff” with. But, reading these stories leaves me feeling optimistic she will adjust just fine. I don’t want to get another Hen, and be in this situation again... so we will just enjoy our time together and adjust to a new routine. Hoping she doesn’t mind the diapers bc that’s the only negative to having her free roaming the house. For now, she stays in the kitchen and back living room. I let my dogs out constantly and we have a pool, so we are always in and out. She just stands by the door and stares in until you let her in. When she’s ready to go out, she squaks. She has me trained well lol. Thanks again!

You're a good chicken mama. I think your girl is very happy, I can tell in your pictures. No one will ever be able to love her like you do. :love
