Long Distance Friendships :-(

Oh yeah... today, Mom and I were wondering. I want to send you some fishie babies whenever we have them.. but in the meantime... Do you want one of our older males?

Hes not a good breeder... He was a nice enough Blue Halfmoon, good nests, ect.. but the female was always beating him up

Hes the one that the pirahna girl tore off strips of his tail and sucked up like noodles. She left him completely bare of a tail and we werent sure he would make it. But he recovered well.
Hes actually really health and active now. His tail re-growth is amazing! He went from nothing left, to having a tail 1/2 as long as it was before, in 3 months. Hs tail is till growing out, but he looks good. Couldnt think of trying to pawn him off on someone before he grew it back, though

He would be a good pet though. He looks good now... hes a solid, non metallic royal blue. When hes regrown all the way he'll be a decent halfmoon.

So we would pay to stick him in a box headed your way. If you want him that is

We could use a little more room around here for future fry, LOL!

Sure. You're going to have to tell me how to take care of him so I don't accidentally kill him like I did my other fishies.

I have a little tank thing still.. I think.

How big is it? Filter, or no?

I'll send you along some food and stuff.

Do you have a water heater... we could send you the cheap little one he has now. Hes in a little tank all by himself, poor guy

It's like, one gallon or something I believe. I'll have to try to find it tomorrow sometime and see.
It's got a little filter (I think it's a filter) that runs right up the middle of the tank.

Oh, and no water heater.

Ok.. thats good... check it out and see if it holds water.

Thats the kind of tank hes in now..
We just make sure the flow coming out of the filter doesent make much current (most do) because it blows the bettas around a lot and they hate that.
We rigged that tank with a little sponge peice in the outlet the water flows out of.... and that disperses the water more gently.. so hes happy in there.

We just use spring water from the store (the cheap ones, but we make sure they are from a 'spring') because I've had fish die from even treated, aged, tap water here.
I think theres just too much chlorine in it, and you have to over compensate with too much chemical. Plus then the ph is wonky.

So I find it easiest to just pay a buck or two for water that I feels safe with.

Then I out is some additives I'll send along with him.. an almond leaf every now and then, left in the water.. releases natural compounds that are in the bettas natural habitat in Thailand.
And then feed him twice a day (sometimes I forget and only feed once

) and change his water every now and then for fresh.. and he should live a long time.

I'll send you his favorite little plant too... He likes to lay on the leaves near the surface and blow the occasional bubble. Hes really kind of a funny and cute fish

But he doesent get appreciated enough in our house because hes not making babies!

I've wanted a fish for so long, but I found out I was a bad fishie mommy so I haven't tried to own one since.
I'll go find some water and get a picture of it and then post it on here before you decide to send him so I can know if I'm even getting the right stuff.

I had little pebbles and a fake plant for my fishies, but they never got to enjoy them..

Dont worry! I'll help you!

It was likely the water

I lost a couple fish, and had others get sick, before I finally realized that the treatments for the water just arent good enough.

Its best to start off with nice, pure water to begin with.... and then my problems magically disappeared.

You could just fill it with tap water to make sure it doesent leak (only because when they sit a while they do that, I had one bust all over the carpet, 20 gallons!)

Apple snails?.. I don't think so. I did buy a snail though when I bought my fishies. It just stuck to the side of the tank all the time.

Oh no, 20 gallons?! I bet that was disappointing.
I wish I knew where it was so I could go find it now, but I think it might be in storage.
I'll look in our wardrobe and such tomorrow and then go check out the storage place if I don't find it.
I guess I could always go buy a cheap little tank if I don't find it. I just have to make sure I have the extra money.
I found out that my insurance will be due before I get my next check, so I'm SUPER tight on money for the next two weeks.
