Hello! It has been long over a year since I have entered BYC forums- and I missed it! I've been focusing on other aspects of my life- namely education, and so I've had little time with my chickens for the past year. Well, upon my decision to hatch a few more chicks this year- which I'm sure you will all hear about shortly, I have entered back into chickendom!

Sjitsy, I have spent quite some time trying to update myself on the recent history of the Kingdom of Brahmalot- and loving it! So many exciting events have happened over a year, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself reading through them! Keep up the good work!

There is another new king on the throne at Brahmalot. Prince Marco disagreed with the policies of King Samson and so has removed the mighty king from his throne! Long live King Marco!



However ...

Samson and some of his ladies are about to be moved to a smaller castle for a time in order to raise some children.



Marco and some of his ladies, also, will be moving into private rooms in order to secure plenty of heirs. When everyone is moved around and the dust settles, those of you who have followed the story from the beginning can guess who the new/old king will be ...

King Rocky! The circle of life is a wondrous thing! It is hoped he will take over the reins and be the wonderful king he once was. Although never fully recovered from his illness and beating of last summer, King Rocky has come out of seclusion and rejoined the flock. He stays out of the way of his sons, but appears to be once again enjoying life, although his hop/skip/walk is funny to see. He no longer falls over when he leans forward to eat and really is doing quite well for his advanced age. He has become extremely friendly since his illness as he had to put up with the indignity of someone else helping to keep him clean and helping him eat for a while, and he will follow the neighboring giants as long as he thinks they have a raisin for him.

He is a shadow of his former glory, as these pictures show, the second picture being approximately 7+ years ago, but he is still a beloved king. Long live King Marco! Long live King Samson! Long live King Rocky!!!!

I just love Samson! Such a handsome King.

It is time for another feast at Brahmalot. The neighboring giants cooked a huge meal of 32 scrambled eggs, an extra-large bowl of oatmeal, two pounds of frozen corn, a box of raisins, and moistened flock raiser. It was quite a large feast!

Being a retired king, Old King Rocky no longer waits for the ladies to eat first.


He enjoyed his bowl of mash ...


getting much of it on his face!


Even a good wipe on the ground when he was finished only added dirt to his already dirty face!


Ladies Blackie, Tinkerbell, Snow White, and Chitti enjoyed their bowl.


Queen Frack enjoys a bite with Lady Buttercup, Lady Carmen, and a couple of other friends.


Even the newest members of Brahmalot enjoyed a bowl, although no one taught them not to climb into their food.

I just recently got all caught up, I really have enjoyed watching your brahmas grow! I got my first chickens about a year ago, 3 of them are light brahmas. They are very passive, and the last to get in any scuffles. They also do so well up here in the cold mountains. Your story has made me want more brahmas! Thanks so much for sharing!

Also attending the feast was Lady Hope. Many of you may remember the severe pit bull attack she suffered last August, where she was nearly skinned alive. She has recovered nicely, although the feathering under her wings never came back in "quite right," and her new skin is bumpy and ripples in places. She has not laid an egg since the attack, but is a forever citizen of Brahmalot.

Here she is last September, a few weeks after the attack, healing nicely. The worst of the wounds are hidden under her left wing, where there was an open-hand sized patch of bare tendons and muscles. There were also deep puncture wounds just above her tail on her back.


Here is Lady Hope, 6-ish months later, happy and healthy. It is always amazing to this scribe how one can heal from such severe injuries with very little care, other than keeping the wounds clean and disinfected.
