Long live the King - the neverending story of Brahmalot!

Ding dong dell, Rosie's in the well -

Not to be outdone, Lady Daffy lays her first egg, too. Can't anyone lay in their nesting boxes anymore?

Meanwhile, the "blue crew" enjoyed a little sunshine.

I have one girl I've never seen lay in the nest box... not to say she hasn't... but It's a big yard out there...

The story of Lady Petunia

Many of the fans of Brahmalot have met Lady Petunia on prior pages, known fondly as "Tunie." Lady Tunie was the only child born in a hatch about 6 or so years ago. This scribe's mother named her "the only petunia in the onion patch, and the name stuck. Tunie was a strange child, never scratching like the others, never dust bathing, and avoiding all the other citizens of Brahmalot. She grew up on one of the nurseries and chose never to leave it, thus it became Castle Tunie. In the past, Tunie would leave her castle during the day for treats and time outside the walls, but after a few traumatic meetings with the kings, she decided to never go outside of her grounds again, even when the doors were open. She received visitors now and then, but she never left the security of her castle.

Over the years doors have rotted and hinges fallen off. Replacements have been made often in both the castle itself and the garden walls. Overall, the castle and surrounding area started looking very shabby.

Well, Christmas came early to Lady Petunia! The local Supplier of Tractors had a good sale on new castles, just the perfect size for Tunie. The neighboring giants brought two home, one to become another nursery and the other a brand new castle for Tunie!

Demolition commenced on the old castle garden area -

The new castle was built and the garden areas attached -

Lady Tunie supervised the entire procedure very carefully.

Finally, she was able to move into her new castle - just the perfect size for one lucky lady! There are still minor adjustments to be made, but hopefully Castle Petunia will stand for several years.

More sad news for Brahmalot. We said goodbye to Queen Mother Chrissie today. She died peacefully of unknown causes, perhaps just old age, being almost 9 years old.

Chrissie and two others were the first chickens, long before Brahmalot was created. Along with her two friends, Jack and Janet, Chrissie moved in even before the neighboring giants moved in over eight years ago. Over the years, Chrissie was happiest when she was broody, raising many children, including Queen Frack. We lost Janet and Jack to predator attacks in past years, but Chrissie survived both a hawk attack and a dog attack over the years.

R.I.P., little mother. You are the reason this scribe fell in love with chickens. Your personality and just plain feistiness always brought smiles to the faces of all. Thank you for almost nine years of hunting eggs, which you always laid in strange places, and all the joy you brought to Brahmalot. Goodnight.
