We got Babara a little over a year ago. She is healthy except for a bare spot on her back. The area is very red and raw looking. When we got her we had a rooster and attributed to the rooster picking at her. The rooster is now gone and the problem persists. We never see the other hens picking at her but she does pick at her own back. We have tried salves and creams and even a sweater but nothing seems to help. None of the other hens have this problem and when we check her we find no sign mites. Can anyone identify what this might be.

Her feathers will not grow back until her molt. A chicken cape will help to cover up the raw back so that it doesn’t get worse but you’ll have to wait until she molts for it to fully heal.
