I grew up on a farm in Iowa. My husband, daughter, dogs, chickens and I are currently limited to 6 hens in the town we live in now but lost 5 to Buffalo gnats on Memorial day so I currently have 1 silver laced Wyandotte hen who lays us a few eggs a week.
My neighbors and family really miss the eggs. The next week I went out and bought 13 unsexed chicks from a local lady. 3 Lavender Orpingtons and the rest black and lavender Ameraucanas. I'm having trouble sexing the Ameraucanas so if anyone has any experience with them, especially the lavender variety, I'd greatly appreciate any help I can get!

Ameraucanas can be tough to sex. They do not get the waddles much at all and their pea combs don't look "cockerelish" until very late in development. I've been fooled with mine, so don't expect sex to be obvious early on. And welcome here! Nice to have you with us!
