Look at this Egg!!!

So Saturday my daughter comes in from checking for eggs and says "Mom, you have got to see this egg!" I just thought I would share it with some people here who would also appreciate it. I also took pictures on my blackberry and posted them on Facebook and showed them to friends and family Saturday night at a mother-daughter banquet. Tell me what you think...

It's 6.75 inches around

3 inches long

almost 2 inches across

Here it is in an egg carton with some of my other eggs

Here it is in my daughters hand with a normal jumbo egg, it weighs 4oz!

Oh my goodness, what breed laid that egg? Is she ok? Maybe there is three yolks in that one!

While it is nice and fun to get huge eggs, it's not something to encourage. It can lead to prolapse.

We haven't cracked it open yet so I don't know how many yolks. The hen that laid it is a Rhode Island Red that just finished a mini molt.

I am not sure how you would "encourage" a hen to lay big eggs but I certainly have done nothing differently. She laid a normal egg today.
