6chickens in St. Charles :

Are they setting up house inside the feeder? Maybe they're moving in?

Maybe,

I did put some pineapple and apples out, have to see if they go for that today

A beekeeper here told me they come to the feed for the molasses that's mixed with chicken feed, and that they also get some of the corn sugars. Guess they didn't get all the nutrition they needed from the flowers to feel 'winter-ready'. I'd be inclined to put out a hummingbird feeder if I saw them at my house.

Again, they are using it as a substitute for needed pollen that is not available elsewhere because of the weather change.
If you want to put something better out for them to use, put out a mixture such as soy flour, yeast, and powdered milk.

I couldn't help but notice that your feeder looks very close to the ground and there seems to be a lot of food on the ground. Is this normal or is it from the bee activity? If you elevate the feeder to slightly lower than your chickens heads there should be less waste. As for the bees I have no idea.
