Look what we caught today

Maybe you could donate the snake to your local university's biology department. Biologists prefer the term "exothermic" to cold-blooded when referring to reptiles since they depend on their surroundings for heat.

My chickens love spiders, even the black widows. Whenever I find one, I give it to the chickens. However, my DH hates spiders of any kind. Its funny to throw a little spider towards him and watch him JUMP!

Alright guys I'd have to kill the snake. I don't care! To be real honest I have had snakes in my house and I really don't like them. I have just gotten to where I can get close enough to kill them if hubby's not here. When he's here, he takes care of them. I've never liked snakes and grew up on a ranch where we had rattle snakes and whatever kind there was. I can handle a splider a lot better than I can a snake. If I find it in my yard it is dead.

I would donate it to a university or whatever if i had a problem with it being here. I don't mind that it is here as it serves a purpose as well as every other animal or reptile or insect.. I just relocated it a few acres away from my garden / house / dogs / kids because it is so highly venomous. I am perfectly fine with letting it live out its life in its natural surroundings. Besides, I'd be a fool to think it's the only one i'm going to encounter this close to the house, and I'm certainly not going to go to the trouble of hauling snakes off to schools or research facilities or the like. But I do understand that my point of view is not necessarily the norm, so thank you all for your suggestions on getting rid of it. My concern was geared toward how the chickens would fare against a Coral Snake. I thought they might kill it quicker than it would harm them, but wasn't sure about that. I do feel better now that I do know.

Hello!!!
I came across this message board while trying to google for a snake specialist lol. I was bitten on the index finger by a copperhead while I was gardening on March 28. I never saw it coming. It felt like a piece of glass until I felt the lower jaw clamp down...I dropped the shrubbery I was handling. Then I saw it. Immediate and immense pain. It took a five day hospital stay, eyes swollen along with my whole arm. I never was afraid of any snake, and I know it was doing whatever snakes do but now I'll either run or kill it. It's not worth trying to catch it to move it (unless you're an expert). Besides I've heard from different sources that they always come back to the same spot. My finger still is swollen, peeling and sometimes my speech is impaired. I just thought I'd share my experience with ya'll.
And ya...I'm from Texas lol

Wow- sorry to hear about your experience there...sounds awful.
I've been bitten a few times, but not yet by a venomous snake. I get a little lax about snakes during the year until I happen upon one, then it seems I'm constantly looking for 'em. Here's hoping I continue to see them before they see me!

How awful, batgirl....do you remember if you smelled that snake before seeing it? When I was a little girl picking blackberries with my grandfather, I smelled cucumbers where there weren't any. My grandfather grabbed me and we hightailed it out of there. My nose is very sensitive, I even have smelled a garter snake while working in the flower beds.

I hate to admit it but I agree with those that say "half on the lower 40-- and the other half on the upper 40! I just hate any snake...If I am ever bitten, I will surely have a heart attack or stroke before arriving at the hosp... Dixie
